Rush

Mission Statement

The Rho Upsilon chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi is a Jewish Fraternity, though non-discriminatory and open to all who are willing to espouse its purpose and values. It seeks to provide its members with an environment that fosters academic excellence, service to the University, support of philanthropic causes, good alumni relations, responsible pledge education, an appreciation of fiscal responsibility and a responsible social interaction between its brothers and members of other fraternity chapters and the greater campus community.

Why Join AEPi?

A fraternity is a learning and living experience, a community organization, and a social organization. We take ourselves seriously, and have historically been among the top fraternities on campus with respect to academic scholarship standing. Our alumni association offers scholarship assistance to brothers based on scholastic achievement and service to the University. Our brothers are upstanding men and we take pride in the philanthropic events we participate in... We also like to have fun.

What is Rush?

Rush is the process by which you get to meet our members and we get to meet you. If we both feel there is a “connection” and a willingness to abide by our mission statement, you will be given a “bid” inviting you to join our group. After accepting this bid, you will enter into a period of pre-brotherhood education called pledging. Pledging will involve learning about the history of our chapter and our national organization, learning fraternity and Rutgers songs, participating in a philanthropic event, and of course, having fun at our social functions. Mandatory study hours at the library will ensure that our chapter and its members continues to remain an academic leader on campus.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many brothers are there currently in the fraternity?

As of the Fall 2006, we have about 50 brothers. We are always looking to expand these numbers!

Do you offer any scholarship assistance?

A Rho Upsilon Scholarship fund has been set up. Click here for more information

Is there a meal plan?

At this time, our chapter does not have a meal plan or an in-house cook. Most brothers have meal plans with the University and eat at the dining halls on campus. Furethermore, our house has a full kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave, and refrigerator for those who wish to cook their own food.

What is your best social event?

We have many social events over the course of the year. These include Date Night, Mixers, Bowling Trips, and our favorite... Formal. Around the end of April (just as classes end and before finals begin), we hold our annual formal. The venue can change, but for the past few years it has been held in Atlantic City. Along with your date, it is a time for brothers to bond and spend some time with each other before the seniors graduate and leave us.

I'm not Jewish. Can I still pledge AEPi?

YES! While we are a nationally recognized Jewish fraternity, we will never turn anyone away simply because they are not Jewish. However, we do expect anyone who joins to uphold our purpose and values as well as participate in philanthropic events-- which may be related to Judaism.
